Being a friend

Thanks for being a friend

Democracy in action
Traditionally the groom says his vows, then the bride follows. For something completely different, get the Best man to flip a coin to decide who says their vows first. Ask the Matron of honour to do the same to determine who is first to exchange the wedding rings.

Family album
Set the scene for a fun and original ceremony. Greet the guests with childhood photos of the couple. This works especially well for outdoor weddings when the photos are strung up between trees. Use laundry pegs to clip the photos onto a clothes line.

Pamper your guests
For an Aussie wedding on a hot summer day, give one of your groomsman the job of setting up a lemonade stand and dispensing icy cold drinks. This could be a small marquee decorated with lemons and oranges.

Unabashed bribery
Involving children in your ceremony will add moments of magic. Very young children can become tired quickly and they sometimes need encouragement. The groom can hold up a Teddy bear (the bigger, the better) to reward the child for making the walk down the aisle – everyone wins.

Thanks for being a friend
Traditionally the guests will gather for a group photograph. Use this photo as a Thank you card to send to everyone who attended your wedding.

Being different

The Traditional Ceremony with a difference.

Perfect Pets
Do you have a much loved dog that is trusted and true? You can include Rover as the ring bearer. This is really fun in the wedding photos.

Holiday Spirit
Having your ceremony in a holiday period such as Easter or Christmas? You might like to welcome guests with hot cross buns or Christmas carols.

Bird’s nests for the wedding rings
The rings could be presented in a small delicate bird’s nest woven with ribbons. Look-alike nests are available from many suppliers of Chinese foods.

Exit or enter with a kazoo
Traditionally the bride enters and leaves the ceremony to music that everyone knows. It could be quirky for guests to hum out the tune on a kazoo – loads of fun and certainly memorable. Maybe the groomsmen could welcome the guests by playing their kazoos to the tune of the Processional. Plastic kazoos are quite inexpensive.

A bicycle built for two
Is your ceremony close to the reception center? Then consider the fun when you both hop on a bicycle or two after your ceremony, circle your guests, then peddle off to the reception center. Check that the bike has a chain guard – don’t let the bride’s gown get caught.

Relay Processional
Close friends or relatives could escort the bride and present her to the next escort at various intervals during the Processional. The last escort could be the person who is giving the bride away.

Yani and Adam’s traditional garden wedding

Yani and Adam

Adam and Yani

Yani and Adam wanted a simple, traditional ceremony in the wide open spaces of a community garden. Queen’s Gardens with its majestic trees, rolling lawns and lily filled ponds provided their perfect location.

Yani chose a vibrant tangerine wedding dress to contrast with the greens of the park. Her bouquet of brandy coloured roses with a central tangerine gerbera complemented her wedding dress perfectly.

Yani’s father Peter escorted her down the garden aisle.

Yani and Adam wanted their guests to feel part of their ceremony. They asked everyone to raise their right hands and promise to enjoy the occasion before the couple said their personal vows.

There was a very touching moment when Yani’s sister Kali presented the wedding rings.

The ceremony concluded with family and friends expressing their loving congratulatory well wishes.

Tanya and Rob’s fairytale wedding

Tanya and Rob

Rob and Tanya

Tanya had always wanted an intimate, garden wedding filled with lots of fun and memorable moments. In particular she wanted a wedding that was reflective of family and friends.

As Tanya with her father, bridesmaids and flower girl walked the path to the ceremony, a crowd of Saturday afternoon walkers stopped in their tracks to admire the stunning processional. Tanya’s wedding dress was Cinderella like, with it’s sumptuous gathered and tucked pattern.

Tanya and Rob’s vows were original, individual and clearly expressed the timeless love they have for the other. Guests could hardly contain themselves when Rob vowed to help expand Tanya’s shoe and jewelery collection. The laughter continued when Tanya vowed to always be there to measure Rob’s biceps after every weights session.

When the flower girl Lilly presented Tanya and Rob’s wedding rings, the guests were treated to one of those rare magic moments that only a child can conjure.

Emma and Jared high school sweethearts

Emma and Jared

Jared and Emma

Emma and Jared’s love story began when they were just fourteen. They share a loving laugh when they reflect on the fact that they have have been together for half of their lives!

They wanted their wedding location to be relaxed and welcoming for the sixty attending guests. Neighbours Ali and Honor were quick to pick up on this and opened up their home for what turned out to be the perfect choice of venue.

Emma wore a fabulous champagne coloured dress while her bridesmaids looked stunning in black dresses and carrying bouquets of mauve roses.

It was a poignant moment when Emma was presented to Jared by her father Roger.

Jared’s parents own the “Frogmore Winery” in Tasmania, so it was a great opportunity to blend their past and future lives with a wine sharing ritual using fine wines produced by the family.

Emma and Jared’s exchange of vows was a very special moment. Having known each other for so long, their relationship was one that had already long been affirmed in their hearts and minds.

Tegan and Cain – Wish Upon a Stone

Tegan and Cain's wedding at Ocean Reef

Wedding at Ocean Reef

The rolling waves and scent of fresh salt air at the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club created its own theatrical setting for Tegan and Cain’s wedding.

Tegan’s bridesmaids Kelly and Sarah were dazzling in brilliant red gowns and purple orchid bouquets.

The groomsmen, Rhys and Dustin complemented the ladies with their red cravats and red pocket handkerchiefs.

Tegan and Cain’s gorgeous little girl Daniella stole the show with her entrance as she scattered red rose petals.

As the couple stood under the floral archway with Daniella, it became very clear that this was the union of a loving family.

A feature of the ceremony was the “Wish Upon a Stone” ceremony. Guests expressed their best wishes for Tegan and Cain on their wishing stones. On every anniversary Tegan and Cain will continue this tradition by each adding a new wishing stone for the forthcoming year.

Tegan and Cain’s wedding ceremony was a visual and emotional splash of colour and an expression of hope for the future.

Gayathri and Geoff married at Caversham

Gayathri and Geoff

Caversham on the Swan

Gayathri and Geoff’s once upon a time story began with a traditional wedding ceremony on the manicured lawns of Caversham House. From its full-sized Gargoyle statues at the front entrance along the olive tree lined driveway, to the limestone walled landscape, Gayathri and Geoff’s love story began in a truly breathtaking setting.

Gayathri’s mother Nagesvari and father Atchiah had just arrived from Malaysia to witness the moment when their beautiful daughter would say, “I do“.

The stunning bridesmaids lead the processional in their turquoise gowns holding their pastel bouquets of mauve, lemon and apricot flowers.

When Gayathri was escorted along the red carpet there was absolute silence. Family and friends were simply mesmerised by the elegance, beauty and femininity of this gorgeous young lady.

The groomsmen were gracious, debonair and highly supportive of Geoff.

Gayathri and Geoff’s classy ceremony concluded with a breathtaking Infinity Hand Blessing ceremony.

Tara and Robert’s riverside wedding

Married at Point Walter

Point Walter wedding

Tara and Robert’s wedding took place under two majestic pine trees at Point Walter. The sweeping views of the Swan River were simply spectacular as brightly coloured yachts breezed across the water playground.

The groomsmen, with Robert in their care, were buzzing with excitement. The bridesmaids shimmered in delicate tangerine gowns.

Tara looked just incredible in her exquisite gown. Her smile had to be seen to be believed – she really did shine.

Then came the surprise of the afternoon with Tara being escorted by both her mum Marilyn and dad Tony. When asked the question, “who presents Tara to be married to Robert?” Marilyn and Tony proudly responded “We do“.

A memorable moment of the Ring Ceremony occurred when each of the groomsmen held and lovingly passed Tara’s wedding ring to Robert. This was beautifully balanced when the bridesmaids passed Robert’s wedding ring to Tara.

This perfect day, dripping in sunshine, concluded with a fabulous fun dinner in the nearby reception center.

Gabrielle and Carey’s life sentence

Old Fremantle Prison

Fremantle Prison Wedding

When Gabrielle and Carey began searching for a wedding venue, they had in mind a place to match their wicked sense of humour. In particular, they wanted a venue that would provide a fitting way to begin their “life sentence” as husband and wife. What better location than the old Fremantle Prison Chapel?

The groomsmen added their own theater to the occasion by locking the celebrant behind bars. Realising though just how much Carey loved Gabrielle, they eventually relented and released Anthony.

The beautiful bride’s stunning gown was almost outshone by her most amazing brilliant yellow shoes.

Gabrielle’s father was so proud to have been asked to bless this marriage by presenting his daughter to be married to Carey. As Raymond presented his little girl, family and friends couldn’t contain their laughter when the groom attached a pair of handcuffs to his bride.

There was barely a dry eye in the chapel when Naomi presented a beautiful reading, “Today I married My Friend“.

In a touching moment of love, family and friends offered their own vows of support.

To conclude this perfect day, the newly weds enjoyed a fabulous reception dinner in the foyer area of the prison.

Sue and Frank’s wedding

Sue and Frank

A surprise shower

The tranquil lily-filled lakes, carpeted beds of flowering annuals and the Peter Pan statue in Queens Gardens formed the backdrop for Sue and Frank’s wedding ceremony.

To add some drama to this perfect setting, the bride and groom arrived at Heirisson Island by helicopter courtesy of Frank’s children Jordan and Taryn. Just as the ceremony was about to commence a crack of thunder and some heavy rain sent everyone scrambling for shelter.

The bride was presented by Sue’s Mum Peta, and her children Kurt and Sean.

Taryn and Sean each presented a heart felt reading. Family and friends then raised their right hand and gave a pledge to make the most of this special moment.

Frank and Sue held hands and looked into each others eyes while offering their original vows. When Sue gave her own tribute to Frank, tissues suddenly became scarce.

To conclude this perfect ceremony, Jordan proposed a loving toast to the newly weds. The guests were then invited to share Panettone cake in keeping with Frank’s Nonna’s tradition.
